Wright King

Thomas Wright Thornburg King (born January 11, 1923 in Okmulgee , Oklahoma - † November 25, 2018 in Canoga Park , California ) was an American actor . He gained fame through supporting roles in films such as Endstation Sehnsucht and Planet of the Apes .

Life

Wright King was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, in 1923. He took acting classes at the St. Louis School of Theater before enlisting in the United States Navy when the war broke out in 1941 . After the war, King made his acting debut in 1949 in an episode of the early science fiction television series Captain Video and His Video Rangers . Between 1947 and 1950 he was also seen in several Broadway productions, including the original production of the play Endstation Sehnsucht , written by Tennessee Williams . He became better known in 1951 with Elia Kazan's classic film Endstation Sehnsucht . In the role of the newsboy, which he had previously played on Broadway, he receives a kiss from Vivien Leigh .

In the years that followed, King played supporting roles in films of various genres, including several westerns . It was followed by other supporting roles in films such as A Shredded Life , Alluring Temptation and you called him King . From 1959 to 1960 he was seen in the role of Jason Nichols in the western series Josh . In 1968, Wright King played the role of veterinarian Dr. Galen in the classic film Planet of the Apes with Charlton Heston in the lead role. After other roles in films such as The Golden Rainbow and Helter Skelter - Night of the Long Knives , King retired from the film business in 1987.

Wright King was married to June Ellen Roth from 1948 until her death in 2008, and the couple had three children. Since 2013, King has lived in the Motion Picture Retirement Home in Calabasas , a retirement home for filmmakers. He died on November 25, 2018 at the age of 95.
