The place name originated from the words Duo Pini (two pine trees ), which stood in front of the Erasmo e Marcellino church, which was started in the 11th century. After the defeat of the Republic of Siena in 1555 the place belonged to the Grand Duchy of Tuscany and here to the administrative unit of Masse del Terzo di Camollia . With the territorial reform of Pietro Leopoldo on June 2, 1777, the place came to the administrative unit Masse del Terzo di Città of the city of Siena, which existed until the Napoleonic occupation and was reinstated in 1814. In 1869 it was incorporated into the Masse di Siena and then became part of Monteriggioni.
