Vsevolod Illarionowitsch Pudowkin
Vsevolod Pudovkin ( Russian Всеволод Илларионович Пудовкин , scientific. Transliteration Vsevolod Illarionovič Pudovkin * 16 . Jul / 28. February 1893 greg. In Penza , † the 30th June 1953 in Moscow (according to other sources in Riga )) was a Soviet film director , Actor and film theorist .
Life
Pudovkin studied at the Moscow University mathematics , however, completed his studies at the beginning of the First World War not decrease. As a soldier, he was wounded at the front in 1915 and taken prisoner by Germany . In 1918 he returned to Russia and initially worked as a chemist, from 1920 he studied at the Moscow State Film School with Vladimir Gardin . His first film, the comedy Schachfieber , was produced by Meschrabpom-Rus in 1925 .
The director became famous with the revolutionary film Мать ( The Mother , 1926). The film adaptation of the story by Maxim Gorky is one of the most important films in Soviet film history , along with the Battleship Potemkin by Sergei Eisenstein .
Other important films are Конец Санкт-Петербурга ( The End of Saint Petersburg , 1927) and Потомок Чингис-Хана ( Storm over Asia 1928).
In addition to his work as a director and occasionally as an actor (1945, Ivan the Terrible ), Pudovkin significantly influenced film theory with three books and numerous specialist articles. In 1948 he was named " People's Artist of the USSR ".
In 1958, Pudowkin's film Mutter was voted one of the six best films of all time at the international film exhibition in Brussels .
