The Wudritz (from Lower Sorbian wudra , "otter") is a left tributary of the Spree that flows in the state of Brandenburg .

location

The Wudritz is fed from the Schlabendorfer See and flows into the Ragower Kahnfahrt near Ragow directly into the Spree .

history

As part of the National Socialist Germanization of Sorbian-based place and waterfront names, the Wudritz was renamed "Ottergraben" in the 1930s. The renaming was reversed after the end of the war.

The headwaters of the Wudritz were originally in the area of today's Drehnaer See . After the Schlabendorf-Süd opencast mine is closed, the Wudritz will be fed from the Schlabendorfer See . At times the Wudritz contained a lot of iron sludge, which led to a brown discoloration. To combat this clogging , the course of the river was desludged using a suction dredger .
