Wulf Schirmer

Wulf Schirmer (born March 9, 1934 in Hanover ) is a German building researcher and university professor .

Schirmer studied architecture at the TH Hanover , where he obtained his diploma in 1963. From 1964 to 1970 he was an assistant at the Institute for Building History at the Technical University of Berlin with Ernst Heinrich , where he also received his doctorate in 1966 and his habilitation in 1970. From 1971 until his retirement in 2002 he was a professor at the University of Karlsruhe and head of the Institute for Building History.

Schirmer was a participant and leader of numerous excavations in Turkey, so in Boğazköy (1959–1971), in Pergamon (1974–1978), in Çayönü (1978–1988) and on the Göllüdağ (1992–1998). Since 1992 he has also been involved in building research on Castel del Monte in Apulia. Another research focus is the classical architecture of Baden , especially Friedrich Weinbrenner .

Schirmer is the publisher of architectura. Journal for the history of architecture and founder of the Southwest German Archive for Architecture and Civil Engineering at the University of Karlsruhe.
