The Wurzacher Ach is the left and western source river of the Aitrach in Baden-Württemberg and is almost 25 km long. It rises in the extreme southwest of the Wurzacher Ried near Ziegelbach , west of Bad Wurzach .

geography

course

First it flows in a northeasterly direction through the Wurzacher Ried. Shortly before leaving it, it turns to the south-east and first passes through the spa town of Bad Wurzach on its longest section to Diepoldshofen , a part of the town of Leutkirch . There she changes back to northeast course. At Leutkirch-Lauben, it then unites as the left upper course with the Eschach, which comes from the south-east . This creates the just under 15 km long Aitrach , which first moves northeast, later north and flows into the Iller as the left tributary with the most water .

In the upper reaches, the natural course of the Wurzacher Ach is affected, especially in the source area and in the city of Bad Wurzach. It can develop freely in the Wurzacher Ried nature reserve. Another nature reserve, the Herrgottsried , is located on the east bank of the river southwest of Gospoldshofen . It has been straightened throughout its last 6.7 kilometers.
