The Wurzelberg is the second highest elevation of the Wurzelberg massif in the Thuringian Slate Mountains in the extreme north of the Sonneberg district , north of Scheibe-Alsbach and east of Goldisthal , for which it is named. The Wurzelberg forms a saddle between the Großer Farmdenkopf peaks , the highest point in the Thuringian Slate Mountains, and the northeastern summit of Jagdschirm . Although this mountain ridge appears inconspicuous, at its highest point it reaches a height of 842.8 m above sea level. NN , higher than the more conspicuous hunting umbrella.
From the massif into the valley of the Schwarza , after Scheibe-Alsbach, Goldisthal and Katzhütte into further foothills, in the west of the main summit the Rotseifenberg (837 m) third highest peak of the massif, the Pechseifenberg (794 m) and the Rapisseifenkopf (761 m ) near Goldisthal and in the east, separated from the Wurzelberg by the Jungfraubachtal, the Löschleitenberg (801 m), which stretches south in the direction of Scheibe-Alsbach, and its northern foothills, the Lindigkopf (739 m), the eastern neighbor of the Jagdschirm opposite the Katzhütter Bärentiegel on the cat that forms here from the confluence of its source streams. In the southwest of the Löschleitenberg, high above the Scheibe-Alsbach dam , there is a joint to the Habichtberg and thus to the Eisenberg massif . The whole massif faces north and is assigned to the Northern High Slate Mountains . Many of the names of the surveys document early mining.
