The Roman Catholic parish church of St-Romain in Wy-dit-Joli-Village , a French commune in the Val-d'Oise department in the Île-de-France region , was built from the 11th century. The building has been on the list of architectural monuments in France as Monument historique since 1981 .

history

The St. Romain , archbishop of Rouen , consecrated church is for a legend to have been around 625 founded by the saint himself. A cemetery from the Merovingian era was discovered next to the church .

The current church was consecrated in 1255 by Eudes Rigaud , Archbishop of Rouen. The oldest parts, the western and northern walls of the nave , date from the 11th century. The portal is also preserved from this period . The base of the bell tower and the choir were built in the 12th century. In the first half of the 13th century, the nave was vaulted and the south transept was built. In the 16th century, the north transept, which is provided with an additional chapel, was added.

In 1695 the structure of the tower was renewed and further changes were made to the church. Major renovations also took place in the 19th century.

Furnishing

The church has four pieces of equipment that are on the list of monuments as "mobilier classés monuments historiques au titre des objets":

  • Stone sculpture of the Madonna and Child from the first quarter of the 16th century
  • Stone sculpture of St. 17th century Romain with missing hands
  • Painting depicting Salome presenting the head of John the Baptist to Herodias , from the time of Louis XIII.
  • Painting depicting John the Baptist preaching from the time of Louis XIII.
