Yevgeny Viktorovich Vuchetich
Evgeni Viktorovič Vučetič ( Russian Евгений Викторович Вучетич ; scientific transliteration Evgenij Viktorovič Vučetič ; * December 15, July / 28 December 1908 greg. In Yekaterinoslav , Russian Empire , today was a prominence to Ukraine in 1974 ; † April 12, in Moscow. ) Soviet sculptor and artist. Vuchetich was best known for his great heroic monuments in the allegorical style.
Vuchetich, of Montenegrin origin (Serbian spelling: Vučetić, Вучетић), was a leading exponent of socialist realism and received numerous awards, including the 1970 Lenin Prize , the Stalin Prize (five times), the Order of Lenin (two times ) and the Order of the Second Great Patriotic War Degree. In 1959 he was named People's Artist of the USSR , in 1967, Hero of Socialist Labor .
It is assumed that his works in Treptower Park (Berlin), in Volgograd and in Magnitogorsk were conceived as a triptych .
Works
- Soviet memorial in Treptower Park in Berlin (1949). This memorial was often the motif for commemorative coins and medals at the end of the Second World War .
- Swords to plowshares in front of the UN headquarters in New York (1957)
- Sculpture by Felix Dzerzhinsky on Lubyanka Square in Moscow (1958; demolished in 1991 during the August coup )
- Mother home calls on Mamayev Hill in what is now Volgograd (1963-67)
- Largest statue of Lenin in the world on the Volga-Don Canal south of today's Volgograd (1970–73)
- Sculpture Hinterland and Front (Russian Тыл - фронту) in Magnitogorsk (1979), executed by Leo Golovnitsky and Jakow Borissowitsch Belopolski
- Mother's home in Kiev (started 1972, opened 1981)
