XO Tour Llif3 is a song by American rapper Lil Uzi Vert . It was released on March 24, 2017 via Atlantic Records .

background

XO Tour Llif3's story began when Lil Uzi Vert started working with producer TM88 . He originally contacted TM88 through FaceTime while in Miami to work with rappers Future and Gucci Mane . TM88's flight back to Atlanta was delayed because of the Fort Lauderdale airport shooting, and he lost his laptop charger cable during the ten hour wait. Back in Atlanta, he no longer had access to his laptop, which led him to use an older computer and a Beats Pill to produce the instrumental for XO Tour Llif3. TM88 first accelerated the original beat (originally XO Tour Llif3 was a collaboration with producer JW Lucas) and shortened the intro and the first verse in order to then adjust the volume and timing of the instrumental using the FL Studio plugin Gross Beat.

The inspiration for the song was the relationship between Lil Uzi Vert and Brittany Byrd, which ended in June 2016. In the song, Lil Uzi Vert sings about substance abuse by explaining the drug Xanax and its effects on the emotional pain caused by breaking up with Byrd alleviate, mentioned ("Please, Xanny, make it go away"). In addition, he often alludes to money by singing "All my friends are dead" (in German "All my friends are dead"), which refers to the illustration of dead US presidents on US banknotes , and that bank notes are his friends.

At the end of February 2017, Lil Uzi Vert released his third extended play Luv Is Rage 1.5 on SoundCloud . The song reached several million streams on SoundCloud in a short period of time, which led to a commercial release.
