Xanthochilus saturnius is a bug fromthe Rhyparochromidae family .
features
The bugs are 6.9–8 mm in size. The head and the front part of the pronotum are black and hardly punctured. The antennae are almost completely colored red. Only the base of the first antenna element is black. The lateral edges of the pronotum are cream-colored and unpunctivated, while the rear part of the pronotum is also cream-colored, but covered with brown dots. The scutellum is black. The cream-colored hemielytres have yellowish longitudinal stripes and longitudinal rows of brown dots. There is also a large black spot at the transition to the membrane. The hemielytres have a cream-colored unpunctured outer hem. A black spot covers much of the membrane. The femora are black. The anterior femora are also slightly thickened. The tibiae are reddish and have rows of thorns.

distribution
Xanthochilus saturnius is a species of bed bugs native to the western Palearctic . Their distribution area extends across the Mediterranean, from Morocco and Portugal to the Middle East . In the northeast, the occurrence extends to Asia Minor , Bulgaria and the island of Crimea . The species is also found in the Canaries and Madeira . The bug species was introduced in North America. The first find was made in California in 1994 . In the meantime, Xanthochilus saturnius has established itself as a neozoon in the western USA in California, Oregon and Washington .
Way of life
The bugs suckle the seeds of various grasses. The bugs move very quickly on the ground. The univoltine species overwinters as an imago . The bugs often form aggregations. Eggs are usually laid in May. The larvae go through 5 stages. The new generation full-blown bedbugs appear in July.
