Origin of the Ying family

Shaohao had the child Gaoyao (皋陶). Gaoyao fathered the son Boyi (伯益). Boyi (伯益) helped fight the flood and was given the name Ying (嬴) in the early Xia Dynasty . Yu the Great enfeoffed Boyi's son Dengfeng State . This resulted in the state of Ying (英). Other children of Boyi became the masters of Liu (六) and Xu (許). This gave rise to the Ying (赢) clans in Ying (英), the Liu (劉) in (六) and the Xu (許) in Henan .

At the end of the Shang Dynasty , the Ying were a powerful feudal ruling family. Feilian (蜚廉) of the Ying (皋) was general and feudal lord under King Zhou of Shang . After the end of the Shang Dynasty, the Ying tribe moved to Shanxi and Gansu .

The descendant Feizi (非子, Biza) received the fiefdom Qin (秦 邑) in Shanxi from King Xiao of Zhou . He became the founder of the Qin Dynasty .

The Bai with the name Ying, the , the Qiang and other nomadic groups come from these Ying of Qin . The Xirong also joined the Qin. And the Yíng royal family created a number of names for their subjects. The Longxi area in Gansu also belonged to the feudal possession of the Qin and after the fall of the Qin dynasty, the area was conquered by the Xiongnu . Even so, some members of the Ying family stayed in Longxi.
