Yach is a district of the town of Elzach in the Emmendingen district in Baden-Württemberg .

General

The formerly independent municipality of Yach has around 1000 inhabitants. The village lies at the foot of the Rohrhardsberg in a side valley. Yach is the only place in the Federal Republic of Germany whose place name begins with a Ypsilon. The Yachers and the inhabitants of the Elz Valley pronounce the place name either [Ijach] or [Ëich].

There are many farms throughout the village, such as B. the Bernhardenhof, the Vogtjosefhof and the Schneiderhof. Yach has a village center with the Catholic parish church St. Wendelin and the Siebenfelsen elementary school. The hamlets Hinterzinken and Vorderzinken are also part of the village, with the Burgstall Schlossbühl on the boundary of the former and the Burgstall Schlössle on the boundary of the latter . The Siebenfelsen are the landmark of Yach.

history

From 1148 a noble family "von der Eiche" appeared in Yach. Later, the place was the center of a Meiertum of the Waldkirch monastery and came in 1567 with the Schwarzenberg rulership in Upper Austria .

On July 1, 1974, Yach was incorporated into Elzach.

coat of arms

Blazon : "In a shield divided by gold and green above and below a lying red armored black bear paw."

The coat of arms is a modification of the rulership coat of arms of the Barons of Bollschweil, as the Schnewlin-Bernlapp called themselves from the 17th century, who were the last local lords of Oberyach.
