After eight years of military service (1975-1983) in the Israeli armed forces , Hadas-Handelsman began his career in the diplomatic service in 1983 . He graduated from Tel Aviv University with a BA in International Relations and Middle East Studies , and then obtained an MA in Middle East Studies from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem .

Initially he worked in various positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem and held diplomatic posts in the United Kingdom , Austria and Turkey . He was then head of the Israeli trade agency in Doha , Qatar . From 2003 to 2006 Hadas-Handelsman was Israel's Ambassador to Jordan . On January 10, 2012, the Supreme Nomination Committee in the Israeli Foreign Ministry decided that Hadas-Handelsman should become the new Ambassador of the State of Israel to the Federal Republic of Germany. The appointment was confirmed by the Israeli government. His predecessor, Yoram Ben-Zeev , returned to Israel at the end of 2011, and the post of ambassador has been vacant since then. Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman initially wanted to appoint a woman from his party who was inexperienced in foreign affairs and failed at the nomination committee.

When in July 2014 anti-Semitic slogans were chanted or posters were shown at pro-Palestinian demonstrations in Germany in connection with Operation Protective Edge (" Allegedly victims in the past - today perpetrators", " Jew, Jew, cowardly pig ", "Shit Jews" ), Hadas-Handelsman described this as an abuse of freedom of expression.
