Yang Yu ( chin .: 杨雨, Yáng Yǔ; born February 6, 1985 in Hangzhou ) is a Chinese freestyle swimmer .

Yang Yu won her first international medal at the 2001 World Championships in Fukuoka over 200 meters. The World Championships were even more successful two years later in Barcelona . She won the gold medal with the 4 × 100 m individual relay, over 200 m and bronze with the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay. The 2004 Olympic Games in Athens were also successful for the athlete from Zhehang . On the individual distance of 200 m freestyle she failed in the semi-finals, with the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay she was eighth and last in the final. But with the 4 × 200m freestyle relay she was able to win the silver medal with the relay of China. On January 18, 2004 in Berlin she also set a new record in the butterfly with a time of 2: 04.04 minutes, which was only broken on December 13, 2007 by Otylia Jędrzejczak .

The World Championships in Montreal brought Yang Yu another medal in the 200 m, this time bronze. The Chinese finished sixth in the 100 m freestyle relay. She won the only title to date on a single course at the 2006 World Short Course Championships in Shanghai over 200 m freestyle. Silver was also added with the 4 × 200m freestyle relay and bronze for the 200m butterfly. The 2007 World Championships in Melbourne were less successful . Yang only reached the final with the 4 × 100m freestyle relay and was seventh there. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing she only competed with the 4 × 200m freestyle relay and won silver with this behind the winners from Australia in a new Asian record time of 7: 45.93 minutes.

In 2009 Yang won her second world championship title in Rome with the 4 × 200m freestyle relay in a new world record time. She also started in the individual competition in the 200 m freestyle and took fifth place in the final.
