Yangguan ( Chinese 陽關 / 阳关 , Pinyin Yangguan - "South Pass / Southern Pass") is the name of an original at the time of the Western Han Dynasty in Chinese western border of emperor Wu fortified pass about 70 kilometers southwest of Dunhuang in the present-day Gansu Province of the People's Republic of China . Like the Jade Gate Pass ( Yumenguan ), it connected China with Central Asia .
The Yangguan Street ( 陽 關 大道 / 阳 关 大道 , Yángguān dàdào ) - an important connection to the so-called " Western Regions " ( 西域 , Xīyù ) - led through him. Its name comes from the fact that it was located in the south of the Jadetor Pass . Since the Song dynasty , it lost its importance and fell into disrepair.
The Tang poet Wang Wei sang about the pass and the road. The ruins of the pass from the Han and Jin times have been on the list of monuments in Gansu Province as Yangguan Yizhi ( 陽 關 遺址 / 阳 关 遗址 , Yángguān Yízhǐ - "historical relics of Yangguan") since 1961 .
