Yannick Elias Shetty (born April 26, 1995 in Vienna ) is an Austrian politician ( NEOS - Das Neue Österreich und Liberales Forum ). He was sworn in as a member of the National Council on October 23, 2019 .

Life

Yannick Shetty was born in Vienna as the son of an Indian and an Austrian with Korean roots. He grew up in Innsbruck , where he attended the academic high school from 2005 and graduated there in 2013 . During his school days, he was active in student representative bodies from 2010 to 2013. After doing his civil service in 2013/14 as a paramedic with the Red Cross in Vienna , he began studying law at the University of Vienna in 2015 . In 2016/17 he worked at Dorda Rechtsanwälte , and since 2018 he has been a legal assistant at Herbst Kinsky Rechtsanwälte GmbH .

Yannick Shetty is avowedly gay. In the course of the COVID-19 pandemic , he volunteered for community service.

After graduating from high school, in 2013 he joined the NEOS party, founded by Matthias Strolz in October 2012 - The New Austria and Liberal Forum , for which he coordinated the election campaign for the 2013 and 2017 national elections in Tyrol . From 2013 to 2015 he was a member of the national board of JUNOS - Young Liberal Students , in 2015/16 he acted as deputy state chairman of JUNOS Vienna. From 2016 to 2018 he was chairman of the JUNOS students. In the 2017 ÖH elections, he ran as the nationwide top candidate for JUNOS students and achieved a result of 12.61%. As a district councilor, he has been a member of the district representation in Vienna's eighth district, Josefstadt , since 2015 , where he also acts as NEOS club chairman .

In the 2019 National Council election, he ran for NEOS in third place in the Vienna electoral district and tenth in the federal list. On October 23, 2019, at the age of 24, he was the youngest member of the XXVII. Legislative period for the Austrian National Council promised .
