Yassin Bouih (born November 24, 1996 in Reggio nell'Emilia ) is an Italian athlete of Moroccan origin who specializes in middle-distance runs .

Athletic career

Yassin Bouih's parents come from Casablanca and first came to Turin for professional reasons before settling in Reggio nell'Emilia , where their son was born. In 2009 he started with athletics in the sprint distances, before he began to focus on the middle distance distances on the advice of his coach at the time, Paolo Gilioli.

In 2012 he took part in national championships for the first time at the U18 championships and was able to win the 1000 meter run indoors. A year later, in October, he won the U18 title over 800 meters outdoors. Before that, he started at the U18 World Championships in Donetsk over 1500 meters, in which, however, he did not get past the lead in 4: 02.12 minutes. During the 2014 season he improved his time over this distance to 3: 51.60 minutes. In July 2015 he competed in the U20 European Championships in Eskilstuna, Sweden, over the 1500 meters. There he reached the final, which he reached eighth in 3: 52.28 minutes.

In 2017 Bouih competed at the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade. In the final he was eighth in 3: 47.95 min. In summer he started at the U23 European Championships in Bydgoszcz. In 3: 45.18 minutes, he did not get past the lead and took 17th place overall. At the 2018 World Indoor Championships in Birmingham, he started over 3000 meters. As third in his preliminary run he qualified for the final, in which he finished eleventh in a new best time of 7: 50.65 minutes.

Bouih has been Italian champion six times so far.
