Yehuda Poliker ( Hebrew יהודה פוליקר; born December 25, 1950 in Kiryat Haim near Haifa ) is an Israeli singer, songwriter, musician and painter.
biography
Yehuda Poliker was born in Kiryat Haim, a suburb of Haifa, under the name Leonidas Polikari ( Greek Λεωνίδας Πολικάρης ). His parents, Jacko and Sara, were Greek Jews who had been deported from Thessaloniki to Auschwitz and who had survived the Holocaust .
He started his musical career as the leader of a rock band , which from 1981 called itself Petrol . During this time Poliker changed his first name to Yehuda. In 1985 he released his first solo album under the title Enajim scheli ("My Eyes"), the title of which is taken from a Greek folk song. The album consists entirely of songs translated from Greek to Ivrit . It sold 70,000 copies and helped bring Greek folk music to a wide audience in Israel. As a result, Poliker worked with numerous Israeli artists, such as Rita , Jardena Arasi , Dana International and Yossi Banai , and wrote song texts for Riki Gal and Arik Einstein, among others . Poliker's third album Efer wa-awak ("Ashes and Dust") gave rise to the 1988 documentary Biglal hamilchama hahi ("Because of this war"), which was also shown in Germany and the aftermath of the Holocaust on those after "that war" children born in Israel.
Poliker was awarded the Greek Order of the Phoenix in 2014.
