Yōichirō Kakitani ( Japanese 柿 谷 曜 一 ​​朗 , Kakitani Yōichirō ; born January 3, 1990 in Osaka , Japan ) is a Japanese football player.

Career

In Japan

At the age of four, Kakitani joined the Cerezo Osaka football school and went through some youth departments there until he received his first professional contract from the club mentioned in 2006. He was loaned to Tokushima Vortis from 2009 to 2011 , before returning to Osaka in 2012 and making a definitive entry into the Cerezo Osaka first-team squad.

With Cerezo Osaka he played in the seasons 2005/06, 2011/12, 2012/13 and 2013/14 in the 1st Japanese division and in the years 2007/08, 2008/09 in the 2nd Japanese division , Tokushima Vortis currently a second division officer from Kakitani.

In a total of 129 league games, the center forward scored 37 goals for Cerezo Osaka. He was nominated for the Asian Young Footballer of the Year award in 2006.

At FC Basel

In July 2014, Kakitani moved to the Swiss Super League club FC Basel , where he signed a four-year contract until June 30, 2018. He made his debut for FC Basel on August 2, 2014 in the third game of the season away from FC Thun , when he came on for Mohamed Elneny in the 77th minute . In his second game on August 9, 2014, in a 4-1 win against FC Zurich , he scored his first goal in the 74th minute to make it 3-1.

The 2014/15 season was very successful for FC Basel, but less so for Kakitani under the new coach Paulo Sousa . In the national team

In 2006, Kakitani won the U-17 AFC Asia Cup with the Japanese U-17 national team and was voted Most Valuable Player of the Tournament with four goals. In 2007 he took part in the U17 World Cup in South Korea and scored two goals in three games. He also drew attention to himself at the 2007 U17 World Cup with a goal from 50 meters away.
