After working at the Herzog-August-Bibliothek in Wolfenbüttel , he took over the management of the Hessian State and University Library (LHB) in 1977 . Haase was the engine of Darmstadt's theater friends and their managing director and vice chairman for over 30 years. He is the author of two dozen articles in the Darmstädter Stadtlexikon, which is now also available online.

Haase was married to Vera Haase. The marriage resulted in a son and a daughter.
