The Young Soul Rebels are a British benefit music project for the benefit of the War Child organization .
In the summer of 2009, some stars of the British urban music scene came together to campaign for support for War Child , who campaigns for children in war zones and against their abuse as child soldiers. The N-Dubz , Pixie Lott , Tinchy Stryder , Frankmusik , VV Brown , Kid British , Chipmunk , Mpho , McLean , Ironik , Domino Go, Bashy , Egypt and the London Community Gospel Choir recorded the song I Got Soul . The title comes from the song All These Things That I've Done by the Killers and is completely called "I got soul, but I'm not a soldier", in English "I have a soul, but I'm not a soldier." The song was previously performed by the Killers with Coldplay , U2 and Take That at the Brit Awards afterparty hosted by War Child . Musically, the Killers song also served as part of the joint piece.
I Got Soul was released on October 19th by Killers Island Records and reached number 10 in the UK and number 19 in Ireland. All proceeds went to War Child. The project also included t-shirts with the words I Got Soul, designed by designer Henry Holland .
