Youngstown is a village in the western part of Niagara County , New York , United States of America . The 2010 census counted 1935 residents.

The place is on the east bank of the Niagara River and thus on the border with Canada . On the opposite side of the river is the city of Niagara-on-the-Lake, with a population of around 14,000 . Youngstown is on New York State Route 18F .

history

The French explorer Robert Cavelier de La Salle built a small fort about one kilometer north of today's city center in 1670. Settlers began to settle around this fort, which is the origins of Youngstown. The fortification was continuously expanded and became the heart of what would later become Fort Niagara . During the British-American War in 1812 the settlement was completely destroyed.
