Yōsei Teikoku ( Japanese 妖精 帝國 , also Das Feenreich ) is a rock / metal band from Tokyo founded in 1997 .

history

Yōsei Teikoku was founded in 1997 in the Japanese capital Tokyo by singer Yui Itsuki and guitarist Takaha Tachibana. Itsuki sings in the band DenKare , while Tachibana was active in Kukui .

A year before the band was officially founded, Atarashii Momo was their first self-produced album. Between 1997 and 1999, Momo no Hane , Momo no Mori and Shikō no Momo each released another self-produced album, before the fifth self-produced studio album was released in 2005 with Stigma .

In the meantime, the duo has been signed by publisher Lantis . In 2007, Gothic Lolita Propaganda released the label debut and the sixth album in total. Two years later the seventh album Gothic Lolita Doctrine was released . On August 23, 2009, Yōsei Teikoku performed at the Animelo Summer Live , the largest anime music festival in the country. Shortly after the release of their single Baptize , bassist Nanami, lead guitarist Hirano "Shiren" Yukimura and drummer Relu joined Itsuki and Tachibana. The third part of the Gothic Lolita series followed with the release of the eighth album Gothic Lolita Agitator . After Relu was replaced by Gight on drums, the band released their ninth album under the title Pax Vesania . The tenth studio album, called Hades: The Other World , was released a year later. In 2015, the band's eleventh album, Shadow Corps (e), followed .

Due to a chronic tendinitis in his arm, guitarist Shiren announced his departure from the band at the end of December 2017. This will delay the production of a new album.

In addition to touring mainly in Japan , Yōsei Teikoku played at several anime conventions in the United States , including the A-Con in Dallas , Texas in 2015, and the Otakon in Washington, DC two years later. Yōsei Teikoku's first international appearance took place before 2010 at the Pacific Media Expo in California in front of around 100 visitors. Only Itsuki and Tachibana played the performance on the keyboard , while the background music was played on a simple CD player .

Music and concept

The music of Yōsei Teikoku can roughly be described as rock music . In the more recent works, the music is more likely to be assigned to metal , which has Gothic influences and a symphonic atmosphere. Influences from electronic music and classical music are also used. The lyrics, which are mainly in Japanese , often contain English as well as German words. She incorporates German words because the German language sounds “cool”. The use of German-language words also creates a response to the band's music. When writing the lyrics, singer Yui darkens the room or retreats into nature to receive inspiration.

There is a hierarchy within the band concept. The singer, who appears under her pseudonym “Fairy Yui”, is the highest authority - she describes herself as a “dictator for life” - while the other musicians are normal people and the fans “subjects”. Both inside and outside of the band it is possible to “move up”. However, that depends on the contribution within the band and the rating of the fans. Concerts are called a "ceremony". A military system is also reflected in the band's concept: After “Fairy Yui” Takaha Ichibana is the second highest authority within the band to hold the position of captain. Bassist Nanami is sergeant major, drummer Gight is sergeant , while former guitarist Shiren was sergeant major . Therefore, the entire name of the band is actually Yōsei Teikoku Dai-san Gungakutai ( 妖精 帝國 第 参軍 楽 隊 , "3rd Music Corps of the Fairy Kingdom "). Yōsei Teikoku is part of the Fairithm team .

Fan base

Unlike in her home country Japan , Yōsei Teikoku has a large and steadily growing fan base abroad, especially in Europe , the United States and South America . According to the singer Yui Itsuki, this depends on the one hand on her musical contributions to the anime series Mirai Nikki and on the other hand on the fact that the concert-goers are referred to as "subjects" by the musicians.
