Yuanping ( 原 平 市 , Yuánpíng Shì ) is a Chinese city in the north of the Shanxi province with 491,213 inhabitants (2010), in 2004 it had about 470,000 inhabitants. It belongs to the administrative area of ​​the prefecture-level Xinzhou City . In 1999 the population was 459,670.

history

Yuanping has a history of over 2000 years. During the Warring States Period , it was part of Zhao State . In the Qin Dynasty , it was under the administration of Taiyuan County. 114 BC, during the reign of Han Emperor Han Wudi , it became an independent Yuanping County, but remained under the administration of Taiyuan. In the 15th year of the reign of Eastern Han Emperor Han Xiandi , it was replaced by Yunzhong County under the administration of Xinxing County. In his 18th year of reign, it was restored as Yuanping County and was under the administration of Yanmen County, to which it belonged during the Three Kingdoms Period . During the Sui Dynasty, the was assigned to Guo County in 606. During the Tang Dynasty, the county was under the administration of Tanglin County from 705. In 1958 the county was called Yuanping. In 1933 the district was dissolved and the city was founded. The city is famous for its painters, calligraphers and poets.
