Yui Kamiji ( Japanese 上 地 結 衣 , Kamiji Yui ; born April 24, 1994 in Akashi ) is a Japanese wheelchair tennis player .

Career

Yui Kamiji started wheelchair tennis at the age of eleven and started in the paraplegic class .

She took in 2012 at the Paralympic Games in London in part. In doubles she was eliminated in the first round, while she reached the quarterfinals in singles. She was defeated there by Aniek van Koot 6: 7, 5: 7. In 2016 she won the bronze medal in singles. In the doubles competition, she took fourth place with Miho Nijo .

At the Para-Asian Games in 2014 , she won the bronze medal in the individual competition and the silver medal in the double competition with Kanako Domori .

At the Wheelchair Tennis Masters in 2013, Yui Kamiji immediately won the individual title in her first finals. She defeated Jiske Griffioen in three sets. In doubles, she made her first finals in 2012 alongside Sabine Ellerbrock . They were defeated by Jiske Griffioen and Aniek van Koot in two sentences. In 2013 and 2014 she won the double title with Jordanne Whiley . At Grand Slam tournaments , she also celebrated a great success with Jordanne Whiley in 2014: The two won all four tournaments. In singles, she won the French Open and the US Open in 2014, followed by the Australian Open in 2017 . At the French Open she won singles and doubles in the same year . So far, she has won twelve Grand Slam tournaments in doubles and four in singles.

She had already taken the lead in the world rankings in both singles and doubles. She was at the top for the first time in singles on May 19, 2014 and doubles on June 9, 2014.
