Sabine Ellerbrock (born November 1, 1975 in Bielefeld ) is a German wheelchair tennis player .

Career

Sabine Ellerbrock started playing tennis at the age of six . After an operation on her right leg due to a compartment syndrome , complications arose, whereupon she developed Sudeck's disease on her foot . In search of a sport that she could play with her illness, she started with wheelchair tennis, in which she started in the paraplegic class since January 2009 .

She took in 2012 in London for the first time in Paralympic Games in part. In doubles she was eliminated from Katharina Krüger in the quarterfinals, they were defeated by Lucy Shuker and Jordanne Whiley . In the singles she lost in the semifinals against Aniek van Koot , in the subsequent bronze match she was also defeated by Jiske Griffioen .

At the Wheelchair Tennis Masters , Sabine Ellerbrock has been twice in the final in doubles. In 2012 she and Yui Kamiji lost in two sets to Jiske Griffioen and Aniek van Koot. The following year she lost with Kgothatso Montjane against Kamiji and Jordanne Whiley. In singles, she reached the final for the first time in 2015, which she lost to Jiske Griffioen in straight sets. She has already won two singles titles in Grand Slam tournaments : in 2013 at the French Open against Griffioen and in 2014 at the Australian Open against Kamiji.

In the world rankings she achieved her best placings with the world ranking in singles on July 1, 2014 and fourth in doubles on June 10, 2013. She is multiple German champion in wheelchair tennis.

In February 2017, Ellerbrock's lower leg was amputated .

Sabine Ellerbrock is a professional high school teacher in position in biology, sports and mathematics.
