Jiske Griffioen (born April 17, 1985 in Woerden ) is a Dutch wheelchair tennis player .

Career

Jiske Griffioen was born with spina bifida and has been living with walking difficulties since childhood . Before her sporting career in wheelchair tennis, she was already a member of the Dutch national wheelchair basketball team at the 2000 Summer Paralympics in Sydney at the age of 14 .

Since 2001 she has been practicing wheelchair tennis as a competitive sport . In 2003 she played her first international tournament. In July 2005, Jiske Griffioen was first in the world rankings in doubles, and in singles she did so for the first time in June 2015. Together with Esther Vergeer , she won the silver medal in doubles at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing . In 2012 she won the bronze medal in singles and silver in doubles. At the 2016 Games , she secured the gold medal in singles after a three-set win over Aniek van Koot . With van Koot she also won gold in the doubles competition.

She won the Wheelchair Tennis Masters in singles for the first time in 2012 and again in 2015, and in doubles she has won the tournament seven times since her first title in 2004.
