Yvette Vickers , actually Yvette Vedder , (born August 26, 1928 in Kansas City , Missouri , † probably 2010 in Benedict Canyon , Los Angeles ) was an American actress , singer and former playmate .

Life

Vickers was born the daughter of jazz musician Charles Vedder and his wife Maria Iola. In her youth she traveled through America with her parents. She later began studying journalism at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Alongside her studies, she began working as an actress. She then went to New York City and got the role as White Rain Girl in a shampoo commercial, later Vickers returned to Los Angeles. There she began her acting career and got her first small role in the film noir drama Boulevard of Twilight .

In 1957 she adopted the stage name Yvette Vickers and got her first leading role in the crime film With Satan on You . This was followed by the lead role as Honey Parker in the cult science fiction film Attack the 20-Meter Woman and a year later in Attack of the Giant Leeches . In July 1959, she was Playboy Playmate of the Month.

In 1991 she played her final role in the B-movie horror film Evil Spirits and returned in front of the camera in 1999 for a role in the controversial comedy series Mystery Science Theater 3000 . In 2005 she returned to the show stage as a guest star and performed at the Toronto Classic Movie Festival. There she was interviewed by journalist Tom Weaver. The interview was later found as an audio track on the DVD release of Attack of the 50 Foot Woman from 2007.

After resting her acting career since 1991, Vickers focused on a career as a singer. After the album Yvette Vickers Sings , she released Tribute to Charlie and Maria, a jazz album on which she interpreted songs from her parents.

Her body was found mummified in her Benedict Canyon home on April 27, 2011 by a neighbor, actress Susan Savage . According to the police, the former playmate was believed to have been dead for almost a year when they were found.

Vickers was married to the musician Don Prell from 1953 to 1957. This was followed by a brief marriage to Leonard Burns in 1959, from whom she was divorced a few months later.
