Yvon Pinard

Yvon Pinard PC (born October 10, 1940 in Drummondville , Québec ) is a Canadian lawyer and politician of the Liberal Party of Canada , who for several years was a member of the lower house and a judge at the Federal Court of Canada and the Court of Appeal of the Court of Martial Appeal Court of Canada ).

Life

After attending school, Pinard completed a course of study, which he completed with a Bachelor of Arts (BA). He then began studying law at the Université de Sherbrooke , graduating with a Licenciate of Laws (LL.L.) in 1964 and then working as a lawyer .

In the general election of July 8, 1974 , he was elected as a candidate of the Liberal Party for the first time as a member of the House of Commons, in which he represented the constituency of Drummond until his resignation on June 29, 1984 . At the beginning of his parliamentary membership Pinard was between September 30, 1974 and October 17, 1977 Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs. On 1 October 1977, he took his first government post and was until March 26, 1979 Parliamentary Secretary to the President of the Privy Council and also between October 1977 and April 1978 deputy leader of the ruling majority in the House ( Deputy Leader of the Government in the House of Commons ) . In this role, he was also vice-chairman of the faction of the Liberal Party.

After the Liberal Party's renewed electoral victory in the February 18, 1980 election , Pinard was appointed to the 22nd Canadian Cabinet by Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau on March 3, 1980 and was President of the Privy Council until the end of Trudeau's term on June 29, 1984 and as such at the same time Leader of the Government in the House of Commons . In this capacity he was also chairman of the Liberal Party in the lower house.

After leaving the government and the lower house, Pinard was appointed judge in the Trial Division of the Federal Court of Canada and the Court of Appeal of the Court of Martial Appeal of Canada .
