Zach Williams
Zachary Stephen Williams (born March 5, 1981 in Pensacola , Florida ) is an American singer of Christian pop music and a Grammy Award winner.
biography
Zach Williams was born in Florida but grew up in Jonesboro , Arkansas . In 2007 he formed a southern rock band with Josh Copeland, Robby Rigsbee, Dustin Dorton and Creed Slater Zach Williams and the Reformation . They performed together for five years and also recorded two albums that were released on an independent label , then the group broke up.
Williams turned to religion and became a minister in the Jonesboro Baptist Church . As part of his church activities, he also contributed music himself and in 2016 he signed a record deal with the Provident's Essential label . With his debut single Chain Breaker he had a big hit that same year. Nine weeks he was No. 1 on the Christian Songs chart in the US and a whole year, held in the top 50. In the GMA Dove Awards , he won two awards and the Grammy Awards , he was in the category Contemporary Christian music for the Song of the year nominated.
The second single was Old Church Choir , which also reached number 1 in the Hot Christian Songs . But it was most successful in the Christian airplay charts, where he set a new record for a solo artist at 20 weeks in first place. Only the band MercyMe had already achieved three more weeks. A little later, Williams released the album Chain Breaker named after the debut single , which took number 2 on the Christian albums. It also made it onto the official US sales charts . He was nominated again at the Grammy Awards 2018 and this time received the award for the best contemporary Christian music album . At the Dove Awards he again received two awards, this time also as Artist of the Year. With Fear Is a Liar , the album also contained a third hit single.
In 2018, Survivor , a live EP with 6 songs from the album, was released, recorded in Harding Prison in Nashville . It didn't hit the charts, but earned him his third Grammy nomination in 2019 .
