The Zagyva [ ˈzɒɟvɒ ] is a western tributary of the Tisza in Hungary . The river is the main body of water in the Mátra and Cserhát Mountains .

The Zagyva rises in the Karancs Mountains on the southern slope of Mount Medve east of Salgótarján about 600 m above sea level.
Fish species
The Zagyva is popular with anglers. The most important fish species are u. a. Pike , carp , chub , aland , catfish , gängling , pikeperch and tench .
