The Zebre (dt. Zebras ) are an Italian rugby union club from Parma . It was founded in 2012 and plays in the international championship Pro14 in place of the previously existing Aironi club . The home games are played in the Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi .

history

In 2012, the Italian Rugby Federation created a new franchise to replace the Aironi team, which had been dissolved for financial reasons, in the international Pro12 league . In the first year of existence, the team lost all 22 games. In the 2015/16 season they did better than Benetton Rugby Treviso , the second Italian team in the league , for the first time .

From 1973 to 1996, an association of the best domestic and foreign players in the Italian league, modeled on the Barbarians, operated under the name Zebre . This team competed once a year against international selections and should spread the rugby sport in northwestern Italy.
