Zecherin is a district of the town of Usedom of the Usedom-Süd office in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

geography

The place is six kilometers west-southwest of the city of Usedom and ten kilometers east of Anklam . Neighboring towns, which are also on the island of Usedom , are Vossberg and Gneventhin in the northeast, Gellenthin in the east and Wilhelmsfelde , Karnin and Kölpin in the southeast. On the mainland there are Kamp in the south-southeast, Anklamer ferry in the southwest, Anklam in the west, Johannishof in the northwest and Klotzow in the north.

The Zecherin district with the district code 133507 encompasses the westernmost part of the Usedomer Winkel peninsula and at the same time forms the western end of the city of Usedom and the southwestern end of the island of Usedom. It is the most distant district on the island from the Baltic Sea coast. It is limited in the north and west by the Peenestrom , in the southwest and south by the river, in the southeast by the Kölpin district and in the east by the Gneventhin district.

history

Zecherin is said to be mentioned several times between 1160 and 1194 as Sikeriz, Sikerina and Secheriz (according to authors Beyersdorf (1878), Rolfs (1933) and Hasselbach (1843)). Since there were many forgeries in the documents of the Grobe / Pudagla Monastery, it is not possible to determine which information is correct with these old documents. The information in the PUB of 1177 (no. 46) and 1178 (no. 48) have not yet been recognized as spurious. This is followed by many documentary and official mentions.

Already in 1835 Zecherin was a very large village with an exactly rectangular shape, which at the time was dominated by a brick factory and the ferry connections from the mainland to the island of Usedom. Due to the mainland-side road and the new road at Zecherin to Usedom (city), the importance of the ferry connection grew considerably in 1880 and a separate ferry yard with a restaurant was built. Two windmills and the two brick factories also led to a further upswing.

In 1931 the bridge, now known as the Zecheriner Bridge, was built, so ferry traffic was history. It was blown up in 1945 and ferry traffic had to be resumed until the new building in 1955. From 1999 to 2000, the bridge was largely renovated with parts of the former Wolgaster Peenebrücke.

On July 1, 1950, Zecherin was incorporated into Karnin .

During the GDR era, little else had changed in the village: the windmills and brickworks had disappeared.
