history

ZVglRWiss was founded in 1878 by Franz Bernhöft , Georg Cohn and Josef Kohler . It is one of the oldest legal journals still in existence. Kohler headed the newspaper from 1882 to 1918. From 1918 to 1938 the newspaper ran Kohler's pupil Leonhard Adam . At the time, the organ's full name was Journal of Comparative Law, Including Ethnological Legal Research . Three foreign professors sat on the editorial board with Adam.

After the National Socialist seizure of power , Adam was persecuted as a Jew and lost his job. Nevertheless, he was able to keep the management of the magazine until 1938. At the end of 1938 he was dismissed from the editorial office and the magazine was Aryanized . The new editor on behalf of the Academy for German Law was the National Socialist international lawyer Axel von Freytagh-Loringhoven . Erich Pritsch became managing editor of the magazine, Wilhelm Wengler the editor. The three foreign publishers disappeared from the front page with Adam. After the Reichspogromnacht on November 9th, Adam emigrated to the United Kingdom .
