Rolf Birk

Rolf Birk (born April 14, 1938 in Stuttgart ) is a German lawyer and former university professor , most recently at Trier University .

Life

Birk began studying law in 1958 at the University of Tübingen , which he completed in 1962 at the University of Erlangen with the first state examination in law. In 1966 Birk received his doctorate. jur. with Ludwig Schnorr von Carolsfeld in Erlangen. Birk completed his habilitation in 1971, also with Schnorr von Carolsfeld.

After being deputy professor in the following years, Brik briefly held his first own professorship at the University of Erlangen in 1975. In the following year he moved to the University of Augsburg . In 1983, Birk accepted a call from the University of Trier to the chair for civil law, labor law and international private law. There he also became director of the Institute for Labor Law and Industrial Relations in the EC, today's Institute for Labor Law and Industrial Relations in the European Union (IAAEU) .

In 1994 the University of Miskolc Birk awarded an honorary doctorate , in 2001 also the University of Pécs . Birk's research focus was and still is primarily on labor and social law, especially its international references.
