At the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing , medals were awarded in a total of 60 bench press competitions (also: powerlifting or weight pulling ). The decisions were made between September 9 and September 16, 2008 at the Beijing Aerospace University , where the Olympic competitions were also held.

Classes

All athletes with a minimum of disability were allowed to participate; these were divided into weight classes, not disability classes.

Results

A total of 200 athletes, 120 of them male and 80 female, took part in the Paralympic powerlifting competitions.

In the first attempt, Lucy Ogechukwu Ejike set the world record with 125 kg, which she improved again in the second attempt with 130 kg. Only in the third attempt did she fail at 137.5 kg, which would have lifted her even more than the world record holder in the 52 kg class.
