Mel Zelnick
Melvin M. "Mel" Zelnick (* 28. September 1924 in New York City ; † 21st February 2008 in Mayer, Arizona ) was an American drummer of modern jazz .
Live and act
Zelnick played in 1945 with Les Elgart , Bob Chester and Scat Davis , in 1946 with Herbie Fields and Jerry Wald , then worked with Chubby Jackson and in 1948 in the Benny Goodman octet . He also took part in his 1948 session with Stan Hasselgård ( At Klick ). He then worked with Lennie Tristano (1949), Boyd Raeburn (1950), Marian McPartland ( Great Britains , 1952), Stan Getz , Les Elgart, Pete Rugolo , Peggy Lee and Nat King Cole . In the 1940s and 1950s he was employed as a drummer for New York radio stations; he also worked in the orchestra of the New York Paramount Theater. In the 1960s he ran a music business; in the 1980s he was the district manager for the Slingerland Drum Company ; In addition, he worked as an accompanist for Clare Willey for twenty years . Zelnick was involved in 40 recording sessions from 1944 to 1961, including a. he can be heard on recordings by Fats Navarro ( The Fabulous Fats Navarro ), Lenny Hambro and Don Elliott (1955).
