The surroundings of the village include the Plišivica, Gradina and Orlove Stine mountains (part of Svilaja Mountain with a large escarpment), which are known for the occasional settlement of griffon vultures during their migration to the island of Cres and towards the Julian Alps in Slovenia . The village is also home to the St. Vitus Church, the patron saint of the village, and the festival in the village takes place on St. Vitus Day, June 15.

The village is known for its autochthonous clay Zelovo pipes . These are clay pipes that were only made in Zelovo and nowhere else in Croatia. In addition to pipes, the residents also made cigarette holders , wooden toys , furniture , everyday objects ( rakes ), decorative objects decorated with wood carvings and musical instruments . Instruments ( "diple" flutes , flutes and strings ). Almost every household in Zelovo was a production facility for various handicrafts. There are only a few rural villages in Croatia where handicrafts were so developed and promoted.

However, the most famous product is the famous Zelovo pipe. The beginnings of pipe production were recorded in the first half of the 18th century when families with the surnames Delaš, Domazet and Jukić moved to Zelovo to manufacture pipes.

Other surnames are Barać, Gabrić, Jelčić, Marović and Šako.
