Zenon Płoszaj

Zenon Płoszaj (born October 8, 1924 in Łódź , † January 14, 2003 there ) was a Polish violinist and music teacher.

Płoszaj studied at the State Music Academy in Łódź with Mieczysław Szaleski until 1955. This was followed by postgraduate studies with Irena Dubiska at the Warsaw Academy of Music and with Juri Jankelewitsch at the Moscow Conservatory . In 1955 he won the third prize at the International Music Competition in Warsaw, in 1957 he was a prize winner at the International Wieniawski Violin Competition in Poznan.

As a soloist and chamber musician, he has performed in Poland, among others, in Czechoslovakia, Germany, the Soviet Union and Japan. His chamber music partners included the pianists Rajmund Ambroziak , Kiejstut Bacewicz , Tadeusz Chmielewski , Jerzy Lefeld , Sergiusz Nadgryzowski , Jadwiga Szamotulska and Stanisław Urstein . As a soloist he has performed with orchestras under the direction of conductors such as Henryk Czyż , Jerzy Katlewicz , Zdzisław Szostak , Stanisław Wisłocki and Bohdan Wodiczka . Among other things, he played the world premieres of Tadeusz Paciorkiewicz's Violin Sonata and Roman Iżykowski's Violin Concerto.

From 1957 Płoszaj taught at the Music High School in Łódź, two years later he took over a violin class at the State Academy of Music, of which he was rector from 1969 to 1981. In 1985 he received the title of full professor. In addition, he led masterclasses in Poland (Łańcut, Żagań) and abroad (Vienna, Tokyo) and participated as a juror in several violin competitions. His most famous students are Barbara Górzyńska and Piotr Pławner .

For his work, Płoszaj was awarded the Prize of the Minister of Culture and Art of the First Degree, the Medal of the National Education Commission, the Music Prize of the City of Łódź and the Officer and Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta . The Łódź Music Academy awarded him an honorary doctorate.
