Zhang Xinyan ( Chinese  張 新 艷  /  张 新 艳 , Pinyin Zhāng Xīnyàn; born February 9, 1994 in Dingxi ) is a Chinese obstacle runner .

Athletic career

Zhang Xinyan gained her first international experience at the 2015 World Cross Country Championships in Guiyang , where she came 17th. Over 3000 m obstacle she took part in the Asian Championships in Wuhan , where she won the bronze medal with a personal best of 9: 46.82 minutes. She qualified for the World Championships in Beijing , where she was eliminated with 10: 13.25 minutes in advance . The following year she took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and did not qualify for the final with 9: 31.47 min . In 2018 she took part in the Asian Games in Jakarta for the first time and finished fourth there in 9: 46.30 min. At the 2019 World Cross Country Championships in Aarhus , she finished 96th in 43:40 minutes and was disqualified with the mixed relay. At the end of April she finished twelfth at the Asian Championships in Doha in 10: 44.36 minutes. She also qualified for the World Championships there in October, where she was eliminated in the preliminary round with 9: 43.75 min .

In 2017, Zhang became the Chinese obstacle course champion. She graduated from the Nanjing Sport Institute with a degree in Sports Science and Sports Management .
