The Zhen Hua 10 was a heavy lift carrier that was originally built as an oil tanker . In order to be able to deliver the container cranes of the Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery company , it was specially converted in 2005 for their transport.

Stranding

On February 2, 2008, the Zhen Hua 10 was loaded with five container cranes in the roadstead off Rotterdam . The anchor broke in a strong storm and the wind drove the ship towards the coast, where it finally ran aground . Due to the strong winds, there was a risk that the ship could overturn .

On the morning of February 3rd, Smit Salvage received the order ( Lloyd's Open Form ) to salvage the ship. A helicopter first dropped a rescue team on board. In addition, the Janus anchor-handling tug from the Harms Bergung shipping company was requested. A first attempt to tow the stranded ship with nearby harbor tugs failed.

After the Janus arrived on February 4, another attempt at rescue failed because a tow rope got caught in the tug's screw system .

During the floods on the night of February 4th to 5th, the tug Janus and three harbor tugs ( Smit Humber , RT Magic , Fairplay-21 ) managed to free the Zhen Hua 10 . Because of the wind-sensitive cargo and the persistent strong winds, the towing association had to wait a short time before the damaged Zhen Hua 10 could finally be towed into the port of Rotterdam .

scrapping

On November 14, 2017, the ship was stranded in Gadani for demolition .
