history

The ship was built in 1986 as the crude oil tanker Rich Duchess at the Japanese shipyard Kasado Dockyard Company in Kudamatsu (hull number 359, keel laid on April 3, 1986, completion on October 24, 1986). The customer was the shipping company Fuyo Kaiun in Osaka . In 2002 V.Ships Norway AS took over the ship and operated it until mid-2007.

In July 2007, the Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry (Hong Kong) Company bought the ship and had it converted to the heavy lift ship Zhen Hua 23 . Since the conversion, the ship has been under the management of the Shanghai Zhenhua Shipping Company and transports container cranes to their place of use on behalf of the parent company Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery Company .

During a stay in Felixstowe harbor at the end of February 2008 , the Zhen Hua 23 broke loose in a strong wind and collided with a quay . Two older container cranes were so badly damaged that they collapsed. Nothing was known about damage to the five container cranes transported on the Zhen Hua 23 .

In March 2012, the Zhen Hua 23 delivered the first four of 16 planned bridges at JadeWeserPort in Wilhelmshaven. They each weigh 1750 t and are 83 m high. The booms are 69 m long and can lift 120 t. At that time they were the largest container cranes in the world.

technology

The ship is propelled by a six - cylinder two - stroke diesel engine of the type 6RTA76 with an output of 10,444  kW , which acts on a fixed propeller . The main engine built under a Sulzer license was manufactured by the Mitsubishi machine factory in Kobe .

The ship has a ballast water capacity of 96,602 cubic meters.
