The ziestblättrige devil's claw ( Phyteuma betonicifolium ), also called Betonienblättrige Rapunzel , is a species of devil's claws ( Phyteuma ) within the family of the bellflower family (Campanulaceae).

Vegetative characteristics
The ziestblättrige devil's claw is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 20 to 70 centimeters. The stem is erect and simple, the upper third is usually bare. The basal leaves are long-stalked and their leaf blades are heart-shaped or rounded at the base, pointed and blunt-toothed and three to eight times as long as they are wide. The upper stem leaves are narrow-lanceolate and sessile.
Generative characteristics
The flowering period extends from June to August. The annual inflorescence is ovate-cylindrical. The bracts are narrow-lanceolate. The flowers are five-fold. The light blue-violet corolla measures 7 to 12 millimeters and is straight before blooming. The stylus towers over the corolla and usually ends in three stigmas.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.
Occurrence
The ziestblättrige devil's claw occurs from France, Switzerland to Italy and from Germany to Austria to the former Yugoslavia . It occurs in the Alps in subalpine to alpine altitudes at altitudes of 1000 to 2700 meters. In the Allgäu Alps, it rises from 1,300 meters on the Grünten on the Schwandalpe to an altitude of 2,380 meters on the Rothornspitze .
The ziestblättrige devil's claw avoids lime and thrives best on slightly acidic, poor soil . It is quite common and thrives in meadows , pastures and shrubbery. She is a character species of the Nardion Association.

The first publication of Phyteuma betonicifolium was in 1787 by Dominique Villars . Synonyms for Phyteuma betonicifolium Vill. are: Phyteuma spicatum var. betonicifolium (Vill.) Lapeyr. , Phyteuma michelii subsp. betonicifolium (Vill.) Nyman .
From Phyteuma betonicifolium there are two subspecies:

Nyman , Phyteuma betonicifolium var. Lanceolatum Rich.Schulz , Phyteuma michelii var. Sessilifolium (A.DC.) Rouy ): It occurs in the entire range of the species.
- Phyteuma betonicifolium subsp. scaposum (Rich.Schulz) Pignatti (Syn .: Phyteuma scaposum Rich.Schulz , Phyteuma michelii subsp. scaposum (Rich.Schulz) P.Fourn. , Phyteuma elegans Hegetschw. ): It occurs in southeastern France, in Switzerland, in Italy and in Austria.
