The waterfall

The Zittenfeldener Quelle is located in the district of Amorbach, about 2 km northwest of Zittenfelden , at about 265  m above sea level. NN . The water rises from a small cave in the red sandstone of the Odenwald and immediately falls down an approximately 3 m high waterfall. The brook that forms there flows into the Morre after approx. 450 m . A few meters above the spring is another, dry spring grotto. The Nibelungensteig leads past the Zittenfelden spring .

The source has been identified as a valuable geotope (geotope number: 676Q001) by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment .

At this source is one of several possible crime scenes from the Nibelungen saga , where Siegfried the dragon slayer was murdered by Hagen von Tronje . The springs are called Siegfriedbrunnen .
