Rheinschleife at the Zonser Grind

Zonser Grind is a nature reserve on a peninsula on the Rhine , north of Zons , to Stürzelberg , and on the left bank of the Rhine across from Düsseldorf-Benrath . Coming from the south, the Rhine is diverted to the southwest, and the Rhine floor is accordingly oriented to the northeast. The area encompassed by the Rhine is almost completely under nature protection and consists of fertilized hay meadows and rows of hybrid poplars, in which oriole and little owl can be found . A large proportion of the area was declared a water protection area, which is fenced off from the street.

The botanically significant part is located between river kilometers 723 and 724 on the western side of the Rhine bend. The Rhine here is very wide, unobstructed and bordered by gravel and sand banks. On the loose, often calcareous inland dunes sands thrive amaranthaceae , silver willow , wicker and almond willow (Salix Trianda) -Gebüsch, alyssum , couch grass and small-reed .
