history

Since the Middle Ages, Stürzelberg has belonged to the Electoral Cologne Office of Zons in the Archbishopric of Cologne . Most of the place lived from agriculture and especially from fishing. The Heckhof, east of Stürzelberg, was first mentioned in a document in 1389 as a manor of Deutz Abbey . The buildings that still exist on this manor date from 1694, as evidenced by an arched inscription. In 1788 the Rhine was frozen over near Stürzelberg. On October 5, 1794, French soldiers occupied the place. Stürzelberg first came to the canton of Zons. Later the place belonged to Mairie Zons in the canton of Dormagen in the Arrondissement de Cologne in the Département de la Roer . In 1815 Stürzelberg came to the mayor's office of Zons in the Neuss district in the Kingdom of Prussia . In 1867, the Stürzelberg community representatives tried in vain to found their own community in the Zons community council. In the 19th century, industrialization began in Stürzelberg. In 1926 the place received the first sewer system. With the death of the Stürzelberg ferryman in 1965, the ferry service from Stürzelberg to Düsseldorf-Benrath was stopped. Stürzelberg has been part of the city of Dormagen since January 1st, 1975.
