A draw knife is a woodworking tool . It consists of an often slightly arched, stable and about 30 cm long single-edged blade , at both ends of which there are handles with which you can pull the draw knife towards you over the workpiece.
Referred to it is also called pull knife , drawing dies , peeling iron , Reif knife ( bayr. : Roafmessa) , Reif iron ( bayr. : Roafeisn), Wagner diameter, drum scrapers, knives beef or falsely as scraper .

Drawing knife were typically used for carving machining oblong convex workpieces on the cutting-board or planing of shingles on the same type shingle Bank used.

Draw Knives are often the fine debarking and polishing of branches and trunks (as opposed to peeling iron or creator ), for working beams and piles and logs , as well as sculptors or sheets used farmers for rough shaping of rounded workpieces. It is also an important tool for the Wagner and calculator to make wooden wheels and wooden rakes . For debarking smaller areas, bow scrapers are used, which are pulled over the wood with one hand.

Peeling irons sit at the end of a longer handle and are used to quickly debark tree trunks. They are pushed with both hands on the handle over the log lying on the ground.

For finer Editing round workpieces are rounded scraping and pulling planer used. The latter are also guided with both hands and have a centrally fixed blade.

The blade of the draft knife is ground on one side only at an angle of 25 degrees (for softwood) to 40 degrees (for hardwood).
