The Roman Catholic parish church of the transfigured Christ is a church building in Bad Driburg in the district of Höxter ( North Rhine-Westphalia ) that characterizes the town.

History and architecture

The parish vicarie was elevated to a parish in August 1981 and has been part of the Bad Driburg Süd pastoral association since 2003. In the south, in front of the city, 20 settlement houses with around 100 residents were built in 1938. After the Second World War, the Südstadt settlement area was greatly expanded in 1947. A new church building was necessary. The church was built in a poorly differentiated environment in which small-scale residential developments predominated.

The complex, consisting of a church, kindergarten and rectory, was built from 1966 to 1968 according to plans by the architect Hans Haas. The planning was preceded by an architectural competition . The church, steeple, tower and outbuildings are laid out in two long lines in a single-story construction. The foundation stone was laid on July 16, 1967, and the buildings were completed in July 1968. The benediction took place in August 1968, the church was consecrated on October 5, 1968 by Lorenz Cardinal Jaeger . The floor plan of the church is fan-shaped and is reminiscent of a crystalline shape. The outer walls are in red brick masonry and partly with zinc sheet clad. From the small windows, niches run downwards. The building appears three-dimensional through further indentations and grooves. In the interior, the floor with a slight incline leads to the spacious chancel, which is raised by two steps, while the ceiling has a slight incline. Round pillars and beams made of concrete serve as design elements. They separate the side chapels from the main room. The rectangular baptistery can be entered separately through a side entrance and separated from the altar area by columns. The Kreuzweg chapel adjoins the baptistery. The ceiling painting was carried out according to drafts by Hans Haas. An extensive renovation of the building was completed in 1998.

The round tower was subsequently clad with artificial slate. It stands in a niche that was left open in the parish hall. Its slim cylinder shape dominates the surroundings and the street space. During the renovation in October 1982 he was given a helmet crowned with a cross .

Furnishing

  • The altar is designed according to the motif of the hands still open at the top. Like the tabernacle stele and the ambo , it was made in dark stone to designs by the architect Haas. They form a strong contrast to the light floor and the red brickwork.
  • The hanging cross was made by Josef Baron in 1978 .

window

The walls are divided by a total of 109 windows. They were created in 1968 by the glass painting company Oidtmann in Linnich based on designs by the glass painter Franz Pauli . It has antique glass with partial use of black stain used. Except for two, the windows are 48 × 48 cm in size. The window above the main portal is 2.18 × 4.70 m, the one above the baptistery 1.05 × 3.45 m. The Peters glass painting from Paderborn restored the windows in 1998.

The organ was built by the organ builder Simon (Borgentreich) and inaugurated in November 1987. The slider chests -instrument has 29 registers on two manuals and pedal . The game actions are mechanical, the stop actions are electric.
