Back to Dalarna! (Original title: Masjävlar ) is a Swedish film from 2004 and the debut of the director Maria Blom . The outdoor shots were shot in the spring of 2004 near Rättvik in Dalarna , while the indoor shots were recorded in the studio of Film i väst in Trollhättan . The film is based on a play that was staged before the film was made.
The Swedish title is composed of the parts Mas , a slang term for a man from Dalarna, and Jävlar 'devil', a derogatory term for rough people. So you could freely translate it as "damn dudes from Dalarna".
action
Mia is 30 years old and single. She lives and works in Stockholm and travels to Dalarna to see her parents because her father is celebrating his 70th birthday. A surprise awaits them there. Her parents would like to give Mia a piece of land by the lake so that she can build a house there and move back “home” to her family and relatives. This leads to discussions between Mia and her two older sisters, Eivor and Gunilla, who feel they are disadvantaged. Both of them stayed in Dalarna and looked after their parents, while Mia was able to take part in big city life in Stockholm. Mia just walked away and the sisters had to sacrifice themselves.
criticism
“Multi-faceted tragic comedy with typified characters who have enough leeway to develop as individual personalities. The artistically varied and artistic presentation of life, both visually and staged, sometimes seems like a scenario under laboratory conditions. "
"A tragic comedy as if drawn from real life: With wit and a keen sense for the characters, theater director Maria Blom developed a gripping family story with interesting marginal characters with her film debut, depicts the contrasts between provincial and urban thinking and depicts multifaceted, everyday family conflicts."
Awards
The film is considered the most successful Swedish film of 2004 and was awarded the 2004 Swedish Film Prize, the Guldbagge , in the categories of Best Film and Best Screenplay for Maria Blom. Kajsa Ernst also received a Guldbagge in the Best Supporting Role category .
